    works assembled for this presentation

    posted Monday, 28 January 2008

Hello, senior-itis. Complete, utter, ridiculous calculus procrastination is in full effect.

I thought I'd try and make it productive procrastination at least, so I set out to find my passport...for all that world traveling I'll be doing post-graduation.

No luck so far, even though I was sure it would be in that dusty blue box buried behind my magic marker basket.

    No.

But the box was full of lots of other goodies including this silly Polaroid:
    pineapple cake

So proud of that pineapple cake (deftly decorated with a fresh pineapple top, canned slices, and pieces of carrot).

There were also lots of ticket stubs, a playlist from an old mix tape (Ramones, The Jam, Black Flag, etc.), soap opera comics cut-outs, a Devo pin, and a letter from my Gramps postmarked April, 1991, addressed to "Ms. S.":

    Nothing special here--
yak at the guys on the ham
    rig--go down to the jetty--
coffee--walk & look at the sail-
    boats---. Certainly better than
the smog & heat (already) of the
    valley.
    Hope you are surviving
school & the job. Will see you
one of these days, I hope.
Real "stick in the mud" lately hi hi.
                                Gramp

I can hear him saying that stuff. Makes me pause and smile. (And my god, I'm still in school. Totally got rid of that job though.)

A dusty time-suck kind of blue box that is perfect for procrastination.

And, oh yes, it had this list-of-a-letter. And yes, LIFE WAS SIMPLER THEN.

fyi, that lovely lady that I've so beautifully framed with my fantastic cake is Gae Buckley, cool chick extraordinaire.

What a trip to see the note from Dad - it really does sound just like him! What a cute picture, and what a surreal cake! And did you find your passport yet?

what's up with the picture? aren't you supposed to but black bars over the eyes or only show your shoes or something? and also I'd like to eat some of that cake?

i think i should have put a black bar over my chin--it looks like i might have a, um, blemish.

I was just talking to my neighbor (mother of six, holy eff) and her sixteen year old daughter is taking Calculus this semester so I'm totally going to have her tutor me. Or take my tests for me. Or both. Chapter zero did me in...what is the rest of the class going to do to me.

calculus doesn't matter, no matter what your guidance counselor says.
