    currin

There's a terrific profile of John Currin in the freshest New Yorker. A slide show of his work is here.

Oh man, and speaking of fresh visuals, have you been looking at The Sartorialist (at least) five times a day?

aren't the majority of oils non-erotic? Pennzoil, Olive, Whale, Coal, Fish, Patchouli. I could never get along very well with someone who smelled like Patchouli and Clove cigarettes. Those are my two least favorite non-dead smells. And also, I don't think Juno was a "perfect movie" like the ad says but it was okay. And also again, I have a new shirt.

I wish the Currin article, not just the paintings were on New Yorker's site. Calvin Tomkins writes a great but also infuriating essay, inserting himself and his wife into it frequently. This tendancy of journalists to evaluate and report on their subject within in the context of their own life bothers me. It's so bloggy.

did self-referencing reporting originate in Rolling Stone? Hunter Thompson? or were they copying someone who came before them?
